Location: Andover, Hampshire
Salary: Up to £40,000 DOE + Overtime
Hours: Monday – Thursday 8am – 5pm, and Fridays 8am – 1pm
Contract: Permanent

CMD Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of an established, family-run precision engineering business with over 80 years of heritage. Due to continued growth and recent investment in state-of-the-art machinery, we are seeking an experienced Multi-Axis Setter/Operator to join a highly skilled engineering team.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can hit the ground running. Training is not provided, therefore proven experience is essential.

The Role

As a Multi-Axis Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for the full operation of market-leading Matsuura 5-axis production centres, producing high-precision components supplied into sectors including Aerospace, Automotive, and Oil & Gas.

Key responsibilities include:

• Setting up, operating, and maintaining 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines
• Interpreting complex engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Selecting appropriate tooling, work holding methods, and fixtures
• Ensuring work orders are completed on time and to strict quality standards
• Applying a Right First Time approach to all manufacturing activities
• Working closely with the Quality team to ensure full component conformity and traceability
• Communicating with Team Leaders and Management when additional equipment or support is required.

You must be comfortable working to tight deadlines and complex customer specifications, with minimal supervision.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in a similar Multi-Axis Setter/Operator role
• Ability to set up, operate, and maintain 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills
• Experience using precision measuring instruments
• Strong discipline towards quality and manufacturing standards
• Ability to work independently without close supervision
• Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
• Energetic, proactive, and positive “can-do” attitude.

Preferred (but not essential)

• Experience operating CNC machines within precision engineering
• Broad understanding of metallic materials
• Experience using Fanuc control systems
• Knowledge of Edgecam or similar CAM software

Working Hours

• Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Friday: 8:00am – 1:00pm

Salary & Benefits

• Salary up to £40,000, negotiable depending on skills and experience
