Facilities Officer / Caretaker
Salary: Up to £36,701 FTE (Pro Rata)
Hours: 7.5 hours per week (07:00-15:00 or 09:00-17:00)

About the Role
I have been instructed to recruit on behalf of our client, a committed and proactive Facilities Officer to support the safe, secure and efficient operation of their premises and grounds.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical maintenance experience who enjoys a varied role. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, you will assist with the day-to-day upkeep of the site, ensuring that buildings and outdoor areas remain safe, well-maintained and fit for purpose.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, organised and able to work independently, while maintaining high standards of health and safety and providing excellent service to staff, visitors and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the general maintenance, repair and upkeep of buildings, facilities and grounds.
- Carry out minor repairs, decorating, porterage and general maintenance tasks.
- Support the locking and unlocking of the premises and provide security for the site.
- Assist with waste management and maintaining clean, safe external and internal environments.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and site call-outs.
- Carry out routine inspections and report any defects or health and safety concerns.
- Assist with fault finding and basic maintenance of site equipment and systems.
- Complete maintenance records and relevant documentation accurately.
- Liaise professionally with contractors, suppliers and colleagues.
- Support the Facilities Manager with planned maintenance activities and deputise during periods of absence where required.
- Act as a First Aider (training will be provided if required).
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, safeguarding responsibilities and organisational policies at all times.
- Provide occasional support outside normal working hours for site events or lettings where required.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
Essential
- Previous experience carrying out building maintenance, repairs or facilities duties.
- A practical, hands-on approach with good DIY and maintenance skills.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good general IT skills.
- A flexible and reliable approach to work.
- A commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and maintaining professional standards.
Desirable
- Previous experience within a school, education or public sector environment.
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
- Working at Heights training.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience working with contractors and planned maintenance programmes.
