This is an interesting opportunity for someone with a strong analytical and commercial mindset who enjoys working on complex projects and using data to help organisations make better-informed strategic and investment decisions.

The role will involve working across a variety of projects for high-profile customers, providing analysis and advice around areas including cost, capability, availability and wider project implications.

The Role

As a Cost Engineer / Modeller, you will be responsible for analysing complex cost and financial information and developing models and analytical tools to support key project decisions.

You will work closely with clients, stakeholders and technical specialists to understand requirements, gather and interpret data and turn complex information into clear, commercially relevant advice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collecting, collating and interpreting cost and financial data from previous projects, suppliers, internal experts and published sources.
  • Developing cost models and analytical tools using Microsoft Excel.
  • Estimating the costs of complex systems and projects.
  • Analysing cost data and producing clear, concise outputs and recommendations for clients.
  • Preparing analytical reports and presentations using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Working closely with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and provide effective advice.
  • Supporting the planning, management and delivery of client contracts.
  • Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams across a range of customer environments.
  • Developing and improving analytical techniques and approaches to support project decision-making.

There will also be the opportunity to become involved in areas such as whole-life cost modelling, life-cycle cost and schedule estimating, risk analysis, project controls and future acquisition programmes.

The role is varied, with some work based from the company’s Wiltshire office and regular travel to customer sites, primarily across the South West.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with data, solving complex problems and presenting information in a clear and straightforward way.

You will ideally have experience in a cost engineering, cost modelling, financial analysis, project controls or similar analytical environment.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to develop and use complex spreadsheets and models.
  • Experience collecting, analysing and interpreting cost or financial data.
  • The ability to produce clear analytical reports and presentations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to simplify complex information and explain it clearly to others.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • The flexibility to work across different projects and customer environments.
  • A willingness to travel to customer sites when required.

Experience of whole-life cost estimating, project controls, risk, schedules, budgets or future acquisition programmes would be advantageous.

Experience of working with government departments or within a regulated or highly structured environment would also be beneficial, although this is not essential.

What’s on Offer

This is an opportunity to join an established and collaborative consultancy where you will have genuine ownership of your work and the opportunity to influence your own career development.

You will work on a varied portfolio of projects, with exposure to complex technical and commercial challenges and the opportunity to work directly with senior customers and stakeholders.

The company offers a supportive working environment, a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to work alongside a talented and enthusiastic team.

If you are an analytical professional looking for a role where you can apply your cost modelling and problem-solving skills to interesting and varied projects, I would be keen to hear from you.
