Trials Conducting Officer

Location: Salisbury Plain, South of Devizes, Wiltshire
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £38,655 – £46,492 per annum, with potential progression to £53,108

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trials Conducting Officer to join our client, a specialist technical and operational team based on the Salisbury Plain, South of Devizes.

This is a highly technical and safety-critical role involving the planning, preparation, management and safe delivery of trials involving explosives, ordnance and munitions. 

As a Trials Conducting Officer, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of trials and range activities, ensuring they are planned, conducted and reported in accordance with strict safety and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and conducting trials involving explosives, ordnance and munitions.
  • Developing detailed trial plans, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and supporting safety documentation.
  • Planning trial logistics, equipment, instrumentation, materials and data capture requirements.
  • Liaising directly with customers and stakeholders throughout the planning and delivery of trials.
  • Operating and evaluating specialist test equipment and investigating equipment failures.
  • Analysing test data and producing accurate technical reports and recommendations.
  • Ensuring work is completed in accordance with relevant quality, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervising students, contractors and other personnel involved in trials and range activities.
  • Supporting technical development, testing, research and training activities.

About You:

You will have significant practical experience within a military, explosives, ammunition, EOD or similarly safety-critical environment.

Ideally, you will hold a recognised explosive disposal or ammunition qualification, such as a Class One Ammunition Technician or equivalent UNMAS EOD qualification, together with practical experience of firing, testing or evaluating explosives, munitions or ordnance.

You will also need:

  • Strong technical knowledge of ammunition systems and range procedures.
  • Proven experience working within a safety-critical environment.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience interpreting technical data and producing detailed reports.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to make informed decisions in changing and challenging circumstances.
  • A proactive, flexible and resilient approach to work.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
